Background: Quercetin is an antioxidant flavonoid which has been shown to inhibit protein tyrosine kinases, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (IC50 ~3.8 µM) and protein kinase C (PKC). It induces apoptosis, blocks cells at the G0/G1 interface and activates human deacetylase SIRT1. It is also an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase, mitochondrial ATPase, cAMP- and cGMP-phosphodiesterases.
