Background: Perifosine or KRX 0401, D 2166 is aorally available PKB/Akt inhibitor that inhibits Akt activation in the PI3K pathway. Additionally, Perifosine reduces phosphorylation levels of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) 1/2, induces cell cycle arrest in G1 and G2, and causes dose-dependent growth inhibition of mouse glial progenitors.
