Background: Wortmannin is a fungal metabolite and a potent, selective, cell-permeable and irreversible inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase, IC50 2-4 nM). It also inhibits myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) and neutrophil and formyl-Met-Leu-Phe-mediated phospholipase D activation.
