Background: SC 79 is a unique specific activator of cytosolic Akt (PKB) with the potential to recapitulate the primary cellular function of Akt signaling in a hippocampal neuronal culture system and a mouse model for ischemic stroke, resulting in augmented neuronal survival. Paradoxically, SC 79 suppressed PH-Akt-GFP plasma membrane translocation.
