Background: Tyrphostin SU 1498 is a potent and selective inhibitor of the VEGF(vascular endothelial growth factor) receptor kinase, Flk-1 (IC50 = 700 nM) and only a weak inhibitor of PDGFR-kinase, EGFR-kinase and HER-2 kinase. It inhibits vascular permeability as well as angiogenesis in cellular and animal studies.
