Beta NGF (nerve growth factor) was discovered on account of its ability to regulate growth, differentiation and survival of peripheral neurons during embryo development but it is also involved in a wide variety of functions, such as neuropeptide modulation, wound healing and tissue scar. It serves as ligand for the specific neurotrophin receptors TrkA and p75 receptor.
Synonyms: Beta Polypeptide, NGF, NGFB, HSAN5, Beta-NGF, MGC161426, MGC161428
Protein informations: Nerve Growth Factor-beta, human recombinant produced in E.Coli, is a non-covalently disulfide-linked homodimer, non-glycosylated. The polypeptide chain contains 2 identical 121 amino acids with a molecular weight of two 13.6 kDa polypeptide monomers. The NGF-β is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Purity: > 95% by SDS PAGE
Biological activity: The ED50, calculated by its ability to stimulate chick E9 DRG neurite outgrowth was found to be < 1.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1 x 1.000.000 units/mg.
