FGF1 and FGF2 are the prototype members of the FGF family, represented by at least 23 proteins in mammals and originally identified as proteins, capable of promoting fibroblast proliferation. Multiple biological activities of FGFs, including proliferation, differentiation and motility are mediated by binding and activating the different receptor tyrosine kinases FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3 and FGFR4. Unlike other growth factors, FGFs act in concert with heparin or heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) to activate FGFRs.

Synonyms: Prostatropin, HBGH-2, HBGF-2, FGF-2, FGF-b

Protein informations: Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 Human Recombinant (FGF-2) produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 155 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 17.4 kDa The FGF-2 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Purity: > 97% by SDS PAGE, Biological activity: The ED50, calculated by the dose-dependent proliferation of BAF3 cells expressing FGF receptors (measured by 3H-thymidine uptake) is <10 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 100.000 Units/mg.
